day 4 - things aren't what they seem- oklahoma/santa fe

so we woke up and tried to go for a walk to explore okla city....it was cccold and there was not much to see. a total of 7 highrise buildings and a population of just over 500,000 does not make for an exciting city. it is quite dull. the most important part of oklahoma's downtown was the site of the bombing of 1995. seeing a dora attached to the fence along with many other momentos was heartwrenching. there was construction on every street which unearthed the red earth beneath.last night's 'brick works' was a contrived creation for tourists. similar to our distillery district with a canal. when we realized that that's all there was, norm and i decided to head out. we checked out early and headed towards santa fe. we thought it was a better choice than Albuquerque, not as direct but same distance from okla.
we gained another hour and lost norm's jackets (which was a blessing in disguise because he didn't like them anyway- they were left in the closet at the marriott) and now we are in beautiful santa fe. the drive was sunny but windy. the landscape was like the movies....hills, sand, tumbleweed, deserted and abandoned gas stations and nothing for miles except for snowcapped mountains in the distance . think of 'hang over'.
now in santa fe, we booked a nice hotel with over 500 years of history (la fonda) close to everything. and then found out that they are fully booked tomorrow...so 'brenda' who wants us to write something great about her on tripadvisor booked us in a neighbouring hotel for tomorrow night. o.k...so as eckhart told us, 'this too shall pass' good or bad. the peace is within and 'is that so?' no  matter what comes your way.
until tomorrow...love, M&N

  1. Although these posts are very descriptive, we need pictures! Did you post to Tripadvisor? Remember the zen of travelling without booking; your father did this the best.
