Got an early start leaving Trump Hotel in Las Vegas at 6:30 a.m. & headed for Monterey, the first stop we booked in advance so far on the trip. We stopped at the happiest town in America, San Louis Obispo and it lives up to its billing; everyone we spoke to was very friendly and helpful in suggesting where to eat, where to find the candy shop, etc.
We are staying at the Inn at Del Monte Beach in Monterey a not great looking place on the outside but is pretty good on the inside with each of the rooms apparently decorated in a celebrity theme; we are in the Coco Chanel room which sounds way more glamorous than it actually looks but is ok. Had dinner at Cocomo restaurant on the harbour with Marianne ordering her favourite crab dinner and I had the sashimi tuna tower with avocado and peppers...and a Sapporo beer...all for $24.!
We're here for 3 days so will have more time to explore Monterey. (check out the subject title song if u have the chance..."Down in Monterey" by the Animals)
